Laundry Day at Lace Street

This piece was made for a collector who said that he liked my bird pieces but that he couldn't see the point in the naked women. I must have made a fairly convincing argument because he commissioned this. I wish I could remember what I said! I started it when I was heavily pregnant and finished it when my son was a few months old. I was working in dribs and drabs and my brain wasn't functioning well so I didn't even attempt to set myself a deadline, so in a fuzzy way I just kept adding more and more little details until no more would fit! We didn't have a car until my children were two and seven so I got used to fitting them and everything else I needed onto a bike, and I have made quite a few pieces about women whose entire lives are contained on their bikes.
