Summer Newsletter 2024

Hello and welcome to my Summer newsletter!

I’m thrilled to announce that my Rockaway Park Sculpture, named The Flounder,
is finally installed at the Glastonbury Festival this week. This piece
marks a significant departure from my usual scale and size of work—it’s a
giant automaton powered by wind and water, co-created with my
collaborator, Clare Barr, at Rockaway Park. Together, Clare and I have
been meticulously installing and adding final touches, including the
figures depicted in the images below, at the
Croissant Neuf Field.

As one of the few femme automata makers in the field, I am particularly
grateful to have Clare working alongside me on this project. I’m eager
to engage with festival-goers about my work and immerse myself in the
vibrant festival atmosphere. If you’re attending Glastonbury this year,
please come and say hello…

Spring Newsletter 2024

Hello and welcome to my Spring newsletter!

I wanted to share some images of the Great Pagoda Automaton, which I created in 2019, housed inside the Great Pagoda at Kew Gardens in London.

Completed in 1762 as a gift for Princess Augusta, the Pagoda is
Chinese-inspired architecture designed by Sir William Chambers. It
offers a stunning bird’s-eye view of London, making it a popular
attraction then and now…

I have been working on a automata collection called Hawkers, Pedlars and Tinkers. This
teapot library is part of the collection and a work in progress that I
have particularly enjoyed. I have just begun to create the characters
and the mechanisms for this piece…
